Hampton Inn & Suites Convention Center
The Hampton Inn at the Convention Center offers a complimentary shuttle to the cruise terminal. Two things to know: it is not advertised on their website, so you have to call the hotel to arrange it — and at half a mile out, most guests find they can simply walk. There is no airport shuttle here, so you will still need transportation from MSY.
Best Western Plus West Bank
Roughly eight miles out, this hotel offers a "Cruise Park and Stay" package that includes parking plus a one-way shuttle to the port.
Read that again, because it is the detail that catches people: one way. When your ship returns, you are standing at the terminal with your luggage and your car is eight miles away across the river. You will need to arrange your own ride back. Plenty of guests do not register this until disembarkation morning, when they are tired and the taxi line is long.
Hotels close enough that you do not need a shuttle at all
No cruise port shuttle required. This is where most cruisers should be looking. Every one of these is a short walk to the ship on embarkation day.

A word of caution on "walkable." Three tenths of a mile is nothing at 60 degrees with a carry-on. It is a different proposition in August, in a downpour, with two checked bags, a stroller, and a grandparent who does not do curbs. New Orleans weather does not negotiate. If anyone in your party would struggle with that walk, plan a ride and stop thinking about it.
What is actually at each terminal
Worth knowing before you decide how much a cruise port shuttle is worth to you.
Both terminals carry the same basics: Wi-Fi, tourist information booths, restrooms, vending machines, a refreshment stand and a small store for sundries and souvenirs. Julia Street adds a 1,000-space parking garage with elevators connecting every level to the check-in area, and the gangway is ADA-compliant and climate-controlled with no tendering required.
What neither terminal has is a shuttle into the city. If you arrive early and want to go anywhere before boarding, that is on you — though the riverfront streetcar line runs near the terminal area and is a genuinely pleasant way to reach the French Quarter if you are travelling light.
Driving in? Do the parking math first
Terminal parking at Julia Street runs roughly $20 a day. On a seven-night sailing that is about $140 before you have bought a single beignet — often more than the hotel stay you were trying to economise on.
This is why "park and cruise" packages exist, and why the West Bank hotels bundle parking with their shuttle. It is a real saving if the numbers work for your trip. Just remember the return-leg gap: a package that parks your car eight miles away and shuttles you one way to the ship leaves you solving disembarkation morning on your own.
One quirk worth knowing: if you end up parked at the 100 Poydras Garage rather than at the terminal itself, there is a shuttle that runs you and your luggage over to the Julia Street terminal. Ask at the garage rather than assuming you are walking.
The airport-hotel trap
Here is where we see the most avoidable mistakes.
Several hotels near Louis Armstrong International advertise a free airport shuttle — the Hilton New Orleans Airport, DoubleTree, Home2 Suites Kenner, Comfort Inn & Suites Airport North, Ramada Kenner, Holiday Inn Express Airport South. Those airport shuttles are real and genuinely free. They are not a cruise port shuttle.
They also only go to the airport.
Those hotels sit 12 to 15.5 miles from the cruise terminals — a 25 to 30 minute drive. Guests book them thinking "shuttle included" covers the whole trip, then find on cruise morning that the free shuttle runs the wrong direction entirely. With luggage, a fixed boarding window, and a group, that is the worst possible morning to be improvising.

Three trips no cruise port shuttle covers
Even the hotels that do run a cruise shuttle only solve one leg: hotel to ship, on cruise day. Here is what is left.
Arrival day: MSY to your hotel. The hotel shuttle does not exist for you yet — you are not a guest until you check in. This is the leg most people underestimate, particularly on a late flight.
The day before you sail. Cruise lines tell you to fly in a day early, which is good advice. That leaves you a full day in one of the best cities in America with no transportation plan. Disembarkation morning. No cruise port shuttle runs this leg. You are off the ship by 7:00 or 9:00 am with a mid-afternoon flight and nowhere to put your luggage. Check what is on at the Convention Center for your dates before you assume the downtown premium is unaffordable, and again before you assume it is worth paying. It swings both ways.
The same logic applies to the city calendar. Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Essence Festival and French Quarter Fest all compress hotel availability and close streets. A cruise port shuttle is no help when a parade route sits between the hotel and the river — a chauffeur who knows which streets are shut that morning is.
Travelling as a group? Read this part twice
Most cruise port shuttle advice is written for two people with carry-ons. Groups are a different problem, and the failure modes are specific.
