North Shore Car Service: Crossing the Causeway

North Shore car service is shaped by one fact: the North Shore is a 24-mile bridge away from everything on the south side. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest continuous bridge over water in the world, and when it fogs in or an accident closes a span, there is no shortcut — the alternative is the I-10 twin spans through Slidell, which adds 30 to 40 minutes from Mandeville.

Practically, that means two things. Airport runs need a wider buffer than a trip from the Garden District, and we build that in rather than discovering it at 5am. And rideshare coverage thins out considerably north of the lake, particularly early morning and late evening, which is exactly when flights leave and land. A pre-booked North Shore car service is not a luxury up here so much as the only thing that is definitely going to turn up.

Mandeville

Mandeville sits at the north foot of the Causeway, which makes it the quickest Northshore town to reach from the airport — roughly 45 minutes to an hour to MSY in clear traffic, longer in the morning southbound rush. We run a lot of Old Mandeville work: lakefront weddings around the Trailhead and Lakeshore Drive, dinner runs to Girod Street, and airport transfers for families in Beau Chene and Fontainebleau.

For weddings, the pattern we see most is a guest shuttle running between a Mandeville hotel and a lakefront venue, then a late run back. A 14-passenger Sprinter usually does it; larger guest lists move to an Executive Bus.

Covington

Covington is another 15 minutes north of Mandeville, so budget just over an hour to MSY. Downtown Covington around Columbia Street and the Trailhead draws restaurant and event work, and the Abita Springs breweries are a short run east — a common pairing for a brewery tour that starts on the North Shore rather than crossing the lake.

Covington also generates a steady stream of corporate travel to the metro. If you are doing a same-day return, an hourly charter is usually cheaper than two one-way long-distance transfers — ask when you call and we will run both numbers.

Slidell

Slidell is the exception to the Causeway rule: it sits east of the lake, so the route to New Orleans is I-10 through eastern New Orleans rather than the bridge. That makes it about 40 minutes to downtown and 50 to an hour to MSY, and it means Slidell trips are unaffected when the Causeway closes.
